The State Fair of Texas is Creating a Buzz of Excitement6.30.15
This fall, the State Fair of Texas returns to Dallas. The festivities begin on September 25th and run through October 18th at Fair Park, located immediately southeast of Downtown Dallas. The State Fair of Texas consists of numerous exciting events and activities, including college football, a large-scale auto show, live music, a carousel plus more than 70 other rides, Chili and BBQ cook-offs, and much more. For people coming to Dallas for a portion or all 24 days of the fun and entertainment at the State Fair of Texas, there is no better option for accommodations than a furnished apartment from Kozi Corporate Housing.
Each year, the fair is anchored by the college football showdown between the Texas Longhorns (UT-Austin) and Oklahoma Sooners (University of Oklahoma), known as the Red River Rivalry and alternately as the Red River Shootout and the Texas-OU Game. The game is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th and will be played at the Cotton Bowl, the famed arena with a capacity of approximately 92,000 fans that is nestled on the fair grounds and has hosted the annual battle since 1932. Tickets can be purchased here.
The Texas State Fair is the only fair in the US to host a full-fledged auto show, which includes an expo spanning more than 9 acres. Many of the major auto manufacturers—including Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Lincoln, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen—will feature some of their newest models, and often use the expo to unveil new makes and designs to the public.
For music lovers, there is an excellent lineup of free concerts, with pop legends the Beach Boys and up-and-coming country star Kelsea Ballerini among the 15 performers. Also on stage will be gospel rapper Lecrae, Kevin Fowler, and MercyMe.
The fair has something to offer for people of all ages, including a children’s aquarium, museums, approximately 100 daily performances, the Big Tex Choice Awards, cooking competitions, youth events and leadership contests for livestock, and beer and wine gardens. There are fewer than 90 days until the big event kicks off. Last year, some 3 million people attended the fair, including many visitors from out of town. Discounted season pass tickets are still available using the instructions here.
