Family Fun at the Fort Worth Zoo
Founded in 1909, the Fort Worth Zoo is the oldest zoo in Texas and has developed into a nationally-ranked family attraction. At its establishment, the zoo consisted of one lion, two bear cubs, an alligator, a coyote, a peacock and a few rabbits. Today, the zoo houses almost 7,000 native and exotic animals. Regardless of the reason that brings you to Fort Worth or the duration of your stay, don’t miss out an opportunity to visit the zoo—it promises to be a good time!
Located about two miles from Texas Christian University (TCU) and a short drive from downtown, the Fort Worth Zoo is a great way to spend a beautiful day or afternoon. Twelve permanent exhibit areas feature reptiles and amphibians, birds, and a huge variety of mammals such as elephants, rhinos, jaguars, cheetahs, and numerous species of primates. The Museum of Living Art helps raise awareness of the importance of conservation by bringing visitors face-to-face with some of the most exotic and endangered species on earth.
The zoo is open 365 days a year from 10 am – 4 pm. With half price admission on Wednesdays and free admission for toddlers, the zoo is a fun and affordable entertainment option for the whole family. In addition to the permanent exhibits, the zoo features many other great attractions, including a petting yard, interactive play area, and rock climbing wall. Although it’s closed during the winter months, an extra $5 on the admission price gives you access to Safari Splash, a 14,000 square-foot splash area where kids can play while you enjoy the shade and a cold soft drink or lemonade. Safari Splash reopens in April.
