Be a Part of American Tradition: Catch a Houston Astros Game6.28.16
When the summer begins to heat up, there is perhaps no sports tradition more American than grabbing a hot dog and an ice cold beer at a baseball stadium. The Houston Astros play host at Minute Maid Park and provide Houstonians and visitors of H-Town something to root for for 9 innings. Bring your friends and family, your colleagues, or a customer to the stadium for entertainment and fun.
Currently sitting at second place in the American League West division, the Astros have had ups and down seasons over the years. While they sit 9 games behind the division leader Texas Rangers, the team looks poised to make a competitive run again during 2016. Thus far, the Astros bullpen has been outstanding this season, with the relievers helping the team perform very well during close games.
During 2015, the Astros had a surprising streak of success, finishing the regular season with an 86-76 record and taking 2nd place in the division. After beating out the New York Yankees in the American Wild Card Game, the Astros went on to lose to the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series by a margin of 3 games to 2. For the 2015 season, two Astros players were given recognition for outstanding play. Left-handed starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel was awarded the Cy Young Award, which is given to the two best pitchers in Major League Baseball, with one each from the American League and National League. The lefty has had a slower start during the 2016 season, currently sitting with a 4-9 decision record. The team’s shortstop, Carlos Correa, was also awarded Rookie of the Year for the 2015 season. The talented youngster is batting below .300 for the season, but has managed a more impressive an on-base percentage of .359 during the 70 games he has played as of June 25.
Located in the heart of Downtown Houston, Minute Maid Park is ideally situated for a fun afternoon and night game. Hit one of the local restaurants before or after the game or enjoy the concessions and dining options inside the gates of the stadium, including FiveSeven Grille. A namesake for legendary Astros players Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell, the FiveSeven Grille is a casual spot to grab a bit and drink.
