Back in Town: the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo1.9.16
Last year, it drew just shy of 2.5 million visitors. They come to enjoy the world’s largest indoor rodeo. Spanning 20 days, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, also called RodeoHouston or the Houston Rodeo, is hosted at NRG Park. RodeoHouston includes typical rodeo events, such as tie-down roping, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. But RodeoHouston also includes much more: a carnival, a cook-off to crown the best of barbeque grill masters, and concerts with some of the world’s largest country, rock, and pop entertainers. Are you thinking about or planning to come to the rodeo for just a few days or the entire three weeks? Consider the benefits of staying with Kozi Corporate Housing, your home-away-from living experience!
First established in 1931 as the The Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exposition, it was renamed the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1961. RodeoHouston is a much-anticipated extravaganza each year in Houston, Texas. For three weeks, local Houstonians and visitors from across the US and the world descend upon the grounds at NRG Park for fun, food, music, and a celebration of Western, cowboy, and agricultural tradition and lifestyle. There is something to enjoy for people every age!
Each year, the rodeo draws some of the biggest musical acts around. In the past, the likes of Garth Brooks, George Strait, Bon Jovi, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and Taylor Swift have been part of the concert lineup. Even the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, performed at RodeoHouston back in the 1970s. Last year’s lineup included Pitbull, John Legend, Florida Georgia Line, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, and Luke Bryan, among other big-name musical talent. This year’s concert lineup will be announced on January 11th, and tickets for the shows will go on sale on Saturday, January 16th at 10:00 am.
Each year on the Friday prior to the kickoff of the Houston Rodeo, which commences with the ceremonial Grand Entry, is Go Texan Day. On this day, all Houston residents are encouraged to dress in Western attire, including jeans, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats, a tradition that was adopted in the 1950s. Get ready for the fun and exciting Go Texan Day on February 26th, and wear your Old Western best to get into the rodeo spirit!
